There has been much activity over the past weeks related to COVID-19, including support from our nation at both individual and organizational levels. One of the recently passed pieces of legislation includes the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). This act provides employees with support in the event they are unable to work due to a COVID-19 related situation. It includes two components — emergency paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave — for specified reasons related to COVID-19. FFCRA (including the paid sick leave component) went into effect as of April 1 and extends through December 31, 2020.
The following are the qualifiers for an employee to receive pay due to COVID-19 under the act:
Employers: be sure to post the Employee Rights Poster in a visible location in your place of employment. If the majority of team members are working remotely, you may want to consider emailing it out.
